For my friend and inspiration Anne at Dispelling Breastfeeding Myths.
Breasts have fed babies since time immemorial,
but some modern advice has gotten simply deplorable,
Lets look at these myths with the aim of dispelling
the half-truths and fiction from the stuff that’s worth telling.

First off, anatomically for you to succeed,
you’ll need nipples like sign posts and cups; double D’s.
Its nonsense of course, you needn’t win any prizes,
boobs that feed babies come in all shapes and sizes.
(.)(.)
Isn’t Breastfeeding painful? It’s more than an itch.
I knew someone who tried it said it hurt like a b*%ch!
Nursing shouldn’t be painful, nor cause you to yelp!
Most women find comfort when they get the right help.

Your baby’s too skinny, your milk’s not enough,
to fatten them up I hear formula’s good stuff.
Ladies trust your own bodies, its demand and supply,
before grabbing that bottle there’s so much to try.
(.)(.)
Well what if you’re out and your baby needs fed?
Breastfeeding’s not decent! Bring a bottle instead.
Breastfeeding is beautiful, not indecent or lewd,
you can feed baby anywhere, after all it’s just food.
(.)(.)
But you’ll have to stop anyway if you ever get ill,
your baby could catch it and you’re not allowed pills!
You’ll find many safe meds and breast milk’s so clever,
Your baby still benefits though you’re under the weather.
(.)(.)
Aren’t bottles just easier ’cos that’s what I’ve heard?
All her babies loved them, it’s what they preferred!
With strange nipples and teats babes’ confusion can hurt,
But what’s more convenient than unbuttoning your shirt?
(.)(.)
I hope now it’s clear there’s no wisdom in rumour.
Old wives and their tales can tell little but humour.
So what will you need to feed your little creation?
Support…. more support and the right information!!
